Joe Smiley of Hamilton, Ontario build his "Canal Rat" C3 from a Welland Canal salvage that had been bathed in silt and water over the course of an entire winter during the late '70s, leaving the car's body almost completely destroyed. Smiley bought the car and had it dialed-in for road racing by 1979.
