Last week, we listened as Billy Joel described a week in the life of a lonely New England teen in “Captain Jack.” The song proved to be one of Joel’s earliest hit songs, despite its rather surreal yet bleak description of a heroin junkie’s lifestyle.

Today, we’re taking you to a special island courtesy of Audio Adrenaline, a 1990s rock group better known for their Christian songs than their secular matter. The song we chose for Tuning Thursdays deals with the latter, as the band sings the praises of one of Chevy’s more ignoble nameplates, the Chevette.

The song, appropriately named “Chevette,” was first released as a single in 1998 that never struck a chord with mainstream audiences of the day (how could they compete with hits like “Too Close” or “How Do I Live”?), but it Christian circles it was liked well enough. It at least got people talking about the Chevette, after all, so take that for what you will.

As for us, we couldn’t care less what religion the band or its fans ascribes to; we just care about what they have to say about Chevy. In that regard, it seems like they have fond memories of the pokey little I4 they rode around in.
