The iconic small-block Chevrolet engine is one of those powerplants that’s touched nearly every enthusiast’s life in one form or another. Whether an experience with modifying one was your induction into the world of hot-rodding or your first ride was in the back of Dad’s SBC-equipped ’69 Camaro, the SBC is one of those iconic speed items that’s affected us all.
This sweet video put out by the folks at Hagerty Classic Cars follows along with the guys at Thirlby Automotive as they take a greasy, tired old SBC and recondition it to like-new status.
We’re always on the lookout for cool time-lapse content like this, and this particular video doesn’t disappoint. Instead of being shot in a grimy garage with poor lighting and a single camera phone, the Thirlby guys get to business with a host of GoPro cameras and great lighting, showing off the whole process.
What begins as an engine that most likely came out of a junkyard, covered in an oily film that threatens to kill any bird that comes in contact with it, ends up as a fresh Chevy-orange bullet wearing an Edelbrock carburetor and a few other speed parts that’s tuned up and ready to find a new home in some enthusiast’s hot rod.
This was a process that likely took the better part of a few days if not a full week, but the time-lapse speeds it up to consume only three minutes and 48 seconds of your day. Go ahead – click the link and enjoy. You’re welcome!
