We recently covered a show car that we spotted at the 2014 SEMA tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada, that featured a great blend of retro muscle with modern technology. RK Motors Charlotte’s pro-touring ’69 Camaro with a beefy Corvette Racing inspired LS7 engine stole our hearts. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that the guys from NASCAR shot a video of our favorite frame-off resto-mod from the show.
This Camaro isn’t just another LS engine swap project car either. In addition to the manicured body work, the RK Motors crew installed flush fit bumpers on the front and back with a satin black grille and vintage 1970 D80 chin spoiler. A two-tone, cowl induction hood, new windshield framed in satin black trim, and body-matched drip rails add to the show car details.
The build has just the right blend of vintage with modern additions to make it a unique, one-of-a-kind car without overdoing the balance. Each addition is well thought out and skillfully done. Black Detroit Speed wipers, a 1970 Camaro door mirror, and black Ring Brothers’ door handles are perfect examples of additions that other project cars miss.
Examples of the modern touch exist in the cabin of the classic. A modern push button start and full set of Stewart Warner Maximum Performance gauges highlight the dash. The custom center console supports illuminated window switches and LED courtesy lamps. A Billet Specialties steering wheel mounts to a Flaming River steering column with finishing touches that include Marquez jamb vents and custom sill plates.
Our friends at RK Motors Charlotte continue to surprise with each car that rolls across their showroom floor.
