While cruising the forums over at Lateral-G, we saw this video posted of Detroit Speed and Engineering’s owner, Kyle Tucker, hauling ass at Daytona. This race was the Ultimate Street Car Association’s BF Goodrich Hot Lap Challenge that was held on May 23rd through the 25th, 2014. This race took place under the lights, adding to the allure.

The in car footage is from DSE’s 1970 Camaro test car. At the starting line we see Tucker line up behind a yellow C6 Corvette, which is behind a first generation Camaro. Mashing the throttle Tucker takes off, giving the car all he has. On the 31 degree banked turns he holds the throttle wide open, easily catching other cars on the track. The car is geared for road racing though as it runs out of RPM’s on the long stretches. 

While this car looks fairly stock appearing from the outside, the car has little left of its original components. A healthy 6.2L all aluminum L92 motor rests between the frame rails with a five speed trans bolted behind. Naturally the car has a full Detroit Speed suspension components underneath, combined with their mini-tub kit for the rear. With their front clip installed, it allowed Tucker to install a 10-inch wide rim on the front to plant the car in the corners. A set of Baer brakes helps the Camaro come to an abrupt halt on the Daytona road course. 

We just love watching Tucker row through the gears and hearing that motor scream with horsepower!
