Le Bellotto, Simon Lira and Juliano Harnandez decided to form a trio band that did nothing but pay homage to the classic 50’s style music. The idea was actually Lira’s brainchild, and could only work if his old bandmates, Bellotto and Hernandez accepted the challenge and re-learned to play their instruments in a new style. The band’s name, “Old Chevy,” is a tribute to Simon’s old Chevrolet Opala and the beautiful Chevys built in the 50’s.
Chevrolet Opalas were a mid-sized car sold by GM in Brasil from 1969 to 1992. Before the Opala, Chevrolet only built light trucks and pick-up trucks in Brazil which made the Opala the first passenger car made by GM in the South American country.
Equipped with one of two GM (USA) sourced engines, the Chevrolet 153 4-cylinder or the six-cylinder 250 from the contemporary line of North American car/light truck production.
Much like the “Old Chevy” namesake, the trio has gained much more than expected in such a short time. Beginning with this hit, Old Chevy On The Run, recorded in Nashville, Tennessee in December of 2012, the band continues to sing about cars in their own rockabilly and swing styling.
Keep an ear out for this Hardcore Chevy band.
