Before there was American Graffiti, there was Two Lane Blacktop and the star of these movies was the same car. Making its initial appearance in Two Lane Blacktop was a Richard Ruth built 1955 Chevrolet 150 two-door sedan dressed out as a period correct drag car.
The movie featured two racers that traveled from town to town racing their modified Chevy 150 against all comers. Heading east on the famed Route 66, the racers get involved in a race deal that has them in a cross-country race to Washington DC.

Racing a 1970 Pontiac GTO for pinks, the two race teams go through small towns on their way to the capital. Sidetracked by a woman, the racers make it to an airstrip in Tennessee for a drag race showdown. We never get to see the race as the film is burnt by the projector bulb ending the quest.
The car’s next appearance was as Bob Falfa’s drag car in American Graffiti. Falfa is the anti-hero that is pushing for a race against the aging hero in the film. In both flicks, the Chevy 150 does its own stunts and plays the rugged role to award winning perfection.
