Form over function or function over form—an age old debate. In the case of the OneLapCamaro (aka OLC), it’s not even up for discussion. One glimpse at the car lets you know that function reigns supreme for this 2 time One Lap of America Vintage American Class Champion. Some might say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” others live by the phrase, “Don’t get caught with your pants down!”

The latter of which seems to be the motto for the OLC team. Thanks to the corner carving junkies at Pro-touring.com, we were able to get an update on this already awesome Camaro.

Although this race ready 1967 Camaro RS is the car to beat in the 2013 One Lap of America Vintage American Class, team owners James Shipka, David and Mary Pozi have decided that a little “tweaking” is in order if they want to stay on top of next years competition.

To get the total rebuild and facelift going, they headed over to Best Of Show Coachworks, Escondido, California. It was there they began the real work.

As stated on their website, “The fusion of modern technology, exceptional performance and reliability,” is the focus. The body is classic muscle car, but that’s pretty much where anything having to do with “classic” ends. Nearly every panel has been replaced and over 2500 hours of fabrication have been put into the body and frame. The suspension is designed for exceptional handling, with the front being modified to accept coil-overs and the rear using a unique 3 link design.

The drivetrain is manned by a Street Attack spec LS7 engine built by Katech Performance, and a T-56 6-speed transmission. The brains of the bunch is an ISIS Intelligent Multiplex System, which plays its role in bringing the OneLapCamaro’s electrical system into the twenty-first century.

In preparation for next years race, it seems the team has decided to hone in on better handling, improved cooling, and aero. First up is more custom fabrication because OLC is going wide-body, folks! That means (you guessed it) more tire under the fenders, ultimately leading to a wider track width and more contact with the asphalt for even better handling. Also fitting under the category of fabrication is a custom sheet metal front bumper and front splitter designed with the intent of creating an air dam, consequently making it more aerodynamic than the version from last season.

Sharing in the department of aero, the team has decided to add an active rear wing for less drag at low speeds and more rear downforce at high speeds. And finally, in the name of remaining cool under pressure, the car is being topped off with a vented hood.

The 2013 One Lap of America race is nearly 7 months away, and there is no telling what marvels of function the team have planned for the rest of the preparation. But, if the past is any indication of the future, the OneLapCamaro stands a good chance at a trifecta. Knowing what we know about the OLC team, it will at the very least be a race we don’t want to miss!
