While the crew of The Build was able to pinpoint many of the places that needed some extra work on their 1965 Malibu SS, this week’s episode of The Build reveals even more damage that needs to be addressed. Such is the story of many builds, is it not? Check out where else the Malibu needs to be repaired as well as some preliminary quarter panel patchwork in the video above.
Both rear quarter panels on the classic Malibu need a bit of help, whether it be because of rust issues above the wheels or damage from previous incidents. But that’s not the only place Rick Drewry and his cohort found damage. After cutting into the rear passenger side quarter panel to make room for a patch panel, more rust was discovered inside the two quarter pieces.Â
Now instead of just patching the quarter panel, the crew will also have to patch the wheel well, fitting the car with a good enough surface to weld the patch panel on to the rear quarter.
Fortunately, it’s not an extremely large area that will have to be patch on the inside or the outside of the quarter panel.
Things are getting tougher and tougher when it comes to the project that the American Modern Insurance Group has taken on, but with plenty of gearheads on staff and plenty of willing hands, the classic Malibu will be re-skinned and as good as new in no time.
Be sure to check back next Monday to see what’s next on The Build’s list of projects. Â
