Many of us were introduced to racing on frozen lakes earlier in this year when intrepid journalist Lindsay Fisher brought us the story and video of a seriously wicked ice racing Camaro in Sweden. Well that 2nd generation speedster is back once again! As evidenced on this YouTube video, it returns meaner than ever and ready to race on nearly any surface that you might have the nerve to drive on.
Since we last saw this battle-scarred Camaro it has undergone the addition of a new 355 c.i short block as well as a few cosmetic upgrades. And while the new motor’s performance certainly picked up where the old one left off, the new bodywork makes the car look somewhat different than before. In fact some viewer comments made on the video included skepticism that this was even the same car. Doubters have since been assured by driver Jocke Gasfot (a.k.a. blownorange) that this is indeed the same ice monster that we got to know previously.Â
The video which was produced by the Swedish Motor Channel, begins with some previous footage of the Camaro competing on both ice and dirt courses. However most of the recording was shot during some test runs done after the Camaro’s performance and appearance improvements were completed. It documents how the bucolic village of Sättersta, Sweden had its blissful peace shattered as this gnarly beast demonstrated that getting traction on dry asphalt can be as difficult as it is on the ice!
This weather defying Camaro proves that there is really no need for an off-season in racing. When conditions change just pound out the dents, change the tires and find an open venue where you can go fast!
