For most families, Mother’s Day only comes around once a year. But for Monique Watson and her mom Evetta Osborne, every day could be considered a Mother’s Day of sorts as the mother-daughter duo work every week day side by side on the floor of GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Check out the unique bond these two women share in the video from GM above.

With last Sunday being Mother’s Day, Detroit-based General Motors took notice of the mothers that work at their facilities, especially Osborne, who shares her workdays and position on the assembly floor with her daughter.
Osborne has been working at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant since 1999 and actually encouraged her daughter to apply for a job at the facility. Watson was hired on as a GM employee in 2006.
In 2009, the mother-daughter pair trained together in preparation for assembly of the new Chevy Volt and were assigned to the same position on on the floor- the battery installation station. This station involves corresponding with robots to install the 400lb T-shaped battery packs in every Volt that comes through.
“We’re a good team and our relationship is secondary when it comes to performing our jobs – but it’s great to work alongside my daughter,” Osborne, a mother of five, stated in a recent news release.
Over the last several years, Watson and Osborne have been responsible for installing nearly every single battery pack in over 80,000 electric cars produced by GM, including the Chevy Volt, Cadillac ELR, Holden Volt and Opel Ampera.
“We’ve been doing it long enough together that we anticipate each other’s moves,” Watson, a mom herself, said in the release. “There’s a lot of non-verbal communication that we share when we’re working, but it’s also great to know my mother is there to talk with and share things with every day. The arrangement has absolutely improved our relationship.”
Just like with any job, both women agree that they do have rough days at work, but it helps both of them to know that they have family support just a few steps away.
