We all love our Chevy Bel-Airs, Chevelles, Camaros, Novas, etc. But Chevy made other vehicles that weren’t as popular, but just as cool. One of them was the cab-over trucks. These were work machines, beat to death and tossed aside. Because of their intended usage, they aren’t as popular as a ’55 Bel-Air, but that’s what make them so cool. It’s not a Chevy that you see every day, and one that can really draw a lot of attention.

We found this 1949 5400 COE while cruising on eBay and were taken back. For being a work truck and unrestored, it’s in remarkable shape. Sure there is some rust here and there, but we have seen way worse. Having no bed on the truck leaves a world of possibilities. You could do a real neat wood bed with stakes on the side. Or even better, make a ramp truck so we could tow around a wicked Hot Rod.

The engine in this truck is factory, with a six-cylinder and three-speed transmission. We would rip that out in favor of some LS power, or better yet, a Duramax set up. The possibilities are endless for an engine. Inside the cab the truck still sports the factory bench seat, with no creature comforts. Again, all things that could be easily changed.

This truck really does come as a bit of a blank slate, with a ton of cool ways to build it up. We know how we would build it, but what about you? Stock? Custom? Or something in-between? Post up your response below!
