AM General was awarded the contract to supply “Humvees” to the military and the first models were built in a variety of military style versions beginning in 1983. According to legend, AM General had planned to sell a civilian version of the Humvee as far back as the late-1980s due in large part to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s persistence to own one after seeing a convoy of the vehicles during the filming of a movie. The civilian Hummers were finished in automotive gloss paint, adding passenger car enhancements such as air conditioning, sound insulation, upgraded upholstery, stereo systems, wood trim, and convenience packages.
General Motors bought the brand from AM General in December of 1999. Upon releasing their own Hummer designed models, the H2 and H3, the original Hummers were renamed “H1.” All would have gone well for the military utility vehicle until the aftermarket automotive customizers got their hands on the Hummers. Like many customized nameplates, there are some that are good and some that are outrageously over-the-top. We found the “over-the-top” version.
According to the excerpt to the video, this beast is a true one-of-a-kind, 2001 Diesel H1 with 103K miles. The engine was overhauled less than 20K miles ago. The exterior was covered with 4 coats of Rhino Liner, LED Strobe lights, PA system and CB radio. The seller identifies the look as a “Swat-like exterior.”
The “limousine” interior is covered with imitation skins (Gator, Snake and Ostrich), mahogany wood phenomenal surround sound system, CD, MP3, iPhone hook-up, DVD player, Riffle racks, Pistol holder, air compressor and more that is not listed. The seller claims that “celebrity memorabilia comes with the vehicle memorabilia.” We are wondering if the alligator skull on the dash is included in the deal.
The asking price is $89,500 but best offers will be considered.
