Rick’s Hot Rod Shop in El Paso, Texas, has a long history of manufacturing custom fuel tanks for special applications under their Rick’s Stainless Tanks line of fuel tanks. The good times don’t end there however, Rick’s Tanks also has a full line of performance tanks for muscle cars that you can order right off the shelf. Supporting Chevy Tri-Five, Nova, Chevelle and Camaros, these muscle car tanks are available through several retail outlets.
The latest tank in the Rick’s Tanks musclecar arsenal is a narrowed F-body fuel tank for 1969 Firebird and Camaro musclecars. Not only will this tank support wider tires with leaf springs, but it is made in America “which is the best feature of all,” said Hector Guerrero. Sales Manager Guerrero also explained, “It’s a handcrafted tank for 1969 GM F-body,” adding “The tank body is slightly narrower for additional clearance when using larger diameter exhaust.”
When asked about the mitered front edges of the tank, Guerrero explained that “this will be a big benefit when routing your exhaust if you are using an aftermarket rear suspension of any type.” The tanks are manufactured in-house and TIG-welded. Complete with Rick’s Tanks own sending unit which falls into the same parameters as GM’s 90 ohm gauges, and many other after market gauges designed for GM use.
There is a vent port located in the leading edge of the tank to prevent the tank from pressurizing. The tank features a fixed fill neck and cap that keeps the fill neck in the stock location.
The in-tank fuel pump system offers a host of different fuel pumps that you can order from Rick’s Tanks when you purchase the tank itself.
